Recognizing different striking styles
Ben Mnd
Extending the system for recognizing different striking styles, and reward proper forms.
It's possible with VR metrics to know if a punch is a backfist, a slap, a karate punch (front strike with opposite hand armed at the belt), hammer strike, double hammer strike, double front punch, elbow strike (by measuring hand orientation towards the face), etc.
For traditional boxing, this would create more engagement for applying proper punches by giving more points with a more precise system. Such a detection system would also allow to fix the "choppers" issue.
With such metrics you could even reward combination of styles, like one-two karate punches, right karate punch to left hammer strike, etc. Recognizing and rewarding the style would be incredible !

This is boxing, not karate, so adding karate punches would change the game.

Shelley: Karate is not just chopping, chopping is seen in a lot of sports (and is actually a trick used by some FitXR players to get maximum strength for minimal effort).
Also boxing doesn't include downward punches, some FitXR sessions do. Hence FitXR is not contrained to anything (see Dance class).
Widening to other strike types wouldn't hurt the gamedesign intent at all, it would make it more varied, hence more fun. Could be an option aswell for another extension on top of Dance, Box and Hiit.
This suggestion would also solve the "chopping exploit" problem that already has 20 upvotes here, by implementing a style recognition system, allowing to reward proper boxing form.

Ben Mnd: They could add it as a new game, like the dance studio, but it’s not boxing.
Ben Mnd
Shelley: if chopping is not boxing (and I agree), then do you agree that choppers should not be recognized as proper hits in the current game ? (or my suggestion : have a lower score)

Ben Mnd: new game should be added for martial arts style
